After working together on the updated version of 22tracks.com
, I was very happy to join the 22tracks team once more, this time to focus on the UI design for their new iPhone and Android apps. 22tracks being a unique and popular online music service (its web version attracts almost 600.000 visits a month), creating their handheld version was a real challenge. The app available at the time was quite basic, so this was a great opportunity to ensure it would now reach its full potential. I worked closely with Amsterdam mobile experts FONK
, who were responsible for the interaction design and development. Visually, I tried to go for a hybrid look, using standard iOS elements, but also retaining the 22tracks personality, color-usage and focus on DJ's that its fans had grown used to. Especially fun and challenging was optimizing those small UI elements that still contained a lot of functionality, like the collapsing and expanding audio controls, different views when rotating the device and the 'sliding' menus. The app successfully launched in December 2011 and has received many positive reviews since, its users now able to fully experience 22tracks on their mobile device.
